I’m not participating in the current recession and you don’t have to either. Look, grow your business, buy your beer, go on vacation, live life as normal and ignore the prophets of misery. OK?

I’m dead serious about this. The recession IS a fabrication of the media, but becomes a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. Because of the talking heads and all their cheery news, the Mortgage biz is nearly in Intensive Care. Yeah, some people are being affected by this.

And some not.

So understand this: Whatever happens, whether it’s a mild blip or bigger than that, there are two kinds of people:

1) Passive Victims (the 95%)

and

2) Alpha Warriors (the 5%).

Passive Victims see all this as bad, bad, bad. They react in fear and hunker down for a l-o-o-o-o-ng winter. They cut back advertising and training budgets and just sorta wait until everything gets better.

Sorry, but here’s the problem with that: A whole bunch of ‘em just go out of business. It’s like that saying from the Wild West: “The cowards never started. The weak died along the way. Only the strong made it through.”

Alpha Warriors don’t fear economic downturns. Because that’s when they put their roots deeper. They find less obvious ways to acquire customers. Many times they do the opposite of the crowd and invest more into customer acquisition than everyone else, not less. While the Passive Victims are holding hands watching Katie Couric, the Alpha warriors are quietly making headway.

The water goes up, the Passive Victims drown, and when the water drains away, the landscape is cleared and the Alpha Warriors enjoy a feast.

Last week my Roundtable members and I met together privately in Orlando, Florida. Picture this: Well over a dozen people who, for the most part, dominate their industries. You can go to the poorest country in the world; you can go to any big city in the biggest recession you’ve ever seen; and despite the outside conditions there will ALWAYS be restaurants providing fine dining to astute individuals who are unaffected and undeterred by the gloom and misery around them.

You can also try Googling “work for hire India”, “outsource to India” or “copywriter India” and those kind of phrases (and obviously whichever other country you like).

But be careful when outsourcing to such countries as to the type of work you will get back.

Certainly in my experience a number of Indian writers whose work I have looked at is written in a form of English a little different to what I and most of the UK, USA and Australian market are used to.

They tend to use a more old-fashioned English which may be harder to understand for ebook readers.

This could result in dis-satisfied customers and potential refunds………..definitely not a good thing!

But on the upside you can get some extremely well-qualified and well-educated doctors and health care professionals to write for you at an exceptionally good rate.

The good thing is that sites like Elance and Guru mentioned above give you the option to view the writer’s ratings (by others who have used them) and also to see samples of their previous work.

Do your homework and look through the samples carefully………if they look and read fine to you then great go for it and hire them……….

You can even ask them to write a short article (often they will do it for free as a promotional exercise) to get further proof.

But if you get some kind of archaic manuscript that looks like it’s from Victorian times then keep on looking….!

To be honest I tend to use USA and UK writers and generally can negotiate a pretty good price with them anyway………especially when buying in bulk (I go for individuals whenever I can rather than the bigger companies which tend to crop up more and more on Elance).

One final tip………….refer to the work you want done as a “report” not an “ebook” this should get you about a 10% lower price most times (as it’s perceived as less work by the writer!)

Now this is a major headache for so many people - it is OK having ideas and information on a topic which COULD do well online…………

But without getting it out there quick and easily you can soon get pretty frustrated.

So it can be a great idea to have someone help you pull it all together.

Two obvious places to go to get this done for you are:

Now both of these are “reverse Ebay” situations - you post a job and people bid to fulfill the service as cheaply as they can.

But remember cheapest is not always best and be sure to look at previous feedback on their work, samples and what it actually is that they have done……..

For example someone who compiles mini-reports in a specific health niche may not be the best person to help bring together your “how to make $10k per month on the stock exchange” product.

Also only put the barest of details on your initial post (e.g. “I am looking for someone to help me on my ebook project pull the ideas together..”) and then enter into a private message board with them on the full details for your project….

As there are many people that rove these sites to look for niche ideas and would happily steal your idea and have a product written by a ghostwriter for themselves.

Also in the “real world” you may know someone already with the talents to help you or you could put an advert at the local college or university for a student to help you do this……..

A student may well do for a small fee and the great entry on their CV that this will bring (i.e. part of a successful ebook publishing team).

But make sure that they actually know what the aim of an ebook is and how they are written - as this is very different to a normal offline book.

But remember that they key online is a good enough product (ie it does what it says plus a little more and has a very low refund rate) and a knockout saleletter.

The product itself is not what makes you rich online it is the selling of it through a laser-targetted knock-out direct salesletter.

Not as much as my gorgeous wife or my new baby daughter - but none the less it’s pretty
awesome!

For those who don’t know; Google Adwords are the paid adverts that you see on the right
hand side of any Google search page underneath where it says “Sponsored Links”.

As I am sure you are aware Google is the biggest search engine on the planet and it is
estimated that any keyword results found using the Overture Search Tool can be
multiplied by 4 for Google results.

So it’s a big deal and is going to put you in front of lot of people quickly.

But as well as being big; Adwords is very clever and allows you to test advertising
and product ideas quickly, easily and at a very low cost.

One of the great features of Adwords is the ability to write multiple ads and have
them automatically rotated by Google so that different visitors see different ads.

You can then quickly test to find the best performing ads by their Click Through Rate.

Click Through Rate (or CTR) basically does as it says - it measures how many times a
person who sees your Adwords advert clicks it to go through to your website.

CTR of around 1% should be a minimum you look for with 2-5% being good and
5% + being really good.

This may not sound a lot but in a market with 60,000 visitors per month
just a lowly 1% ctr will get you 600 visitors each month, get 2% and you have 1200.

So when you start any Adwords campaign always look to write at least 2 or 3
adverts to test against each other - as I guarantee you will get different responses.

The secret to good CTR is basically good copy (the very limited words of text
you get to put in your ad). More on that shortly…

The whole Adwords system is quite a learning curve that I cannot possibly cover
in a short email.

So for this purpose I would highly, highly recommend one resource above all over in

Anyways that said several great tips for
Adwords are:

• Always include your keyword in the headline as it will boost CTR better than virtually anything else.

• Steer clear of using “free” keywords if you are quite new to Adwords (i.e. “free web templates” “free web hosting”) as these people will generally burn your ad. money and unlikely to be buyers.

• Always start with a low conservative bid price and daily price - you can always increase it as you begin to get success.

• Use some “power words” help to make your text seem more dynamic and appealing (e.g. words like “proven” “tested” “secrets” etc.).

But as we all really know nothing in life is actually free; despite what Janet Jackson and
Luther Vandross may think in that classic 1990’s track “The Best Things in Life are Free”……….!

Well free traffic may not cost money but it does cost you time though and more
than anything on else on earth your time is so valuable.

So always bear that in mind - whether or not you are the best placed person to carry out
some of these free traffic activities -or if it is possible to outsource some of them (e.g. paying someone $6 or $8 to write an article for you).

As we just mentioned articles let’s jump in right there….

Writing highly targeted articles about interesting topics in your niche of about 500 to 700 words can get you some great free traffic.

You write them and then submit them to article directories such as
www.GoArticles.com
www.EzineArticles.com
www.SearchWarp.com

And also www.Squidoo.com which I mentioned in an earlier email.

Other web site owners who are often desperate for content will then use your articles
on their websites (which have a link back to your site on them).

There are also cool ways that you can get high SEO ranking on articles but
I will cover that another time.

Another great free traffic source is exchanging links with other websites who are in the
same niche as you.

But the important point to remember is to link to sites that complement what you have
to offer rather than ones in direct competition.

For example if you have a site selling computer printers then you don’t want
to link to another computer printer site.

Instead link to sites selling computer paper, ink cartridges, “how to mend your
own printer” ebooks etc.

This will also begin to help your SEO rankings but again that discussion is
for another day.

Posting helpful questions and comments on forums related to your niche market (with a link back to your site in the bio. box) is another great free traffic method.

Finally and one of the most profitable is JV and affiliate traffic.

By persuading another webmaster with a list to send his subscribers an email
outlining some of the benefits of your product with his or affiliate link in
there………..can lead to a major pay day.

You can make a bunch of affiliate sales and if you are clever build your list as
well with people opting in to your free offer.

OK there ends the free traffic lesson for today and the next email is the last
in the course so I hope you have found the content helpful and already
using some of it.

But once you have a rough idea or “blueprint” how are you going to get the site made?

Well unless you are well versed in html web code then you need to make a decision.

You really have 2 options - to learn to do it yourself or hire a web coder.

Now their are software applications known as WYSIWYG which stand for What You See Is What You Get.

These are pretty easy to use once you get the hang of them.

They do not require that you have any knowledge of web coding and work on
principles not dissimilar to making a document using Microsoft Word.

I learnt how to put a website together from A-Z using a WYSIWYG that
you get free with Mozilla called Mozilla Composer (just Google it to find it).

The advantages of making your own sites are that it is a repeatable skill and you can
do it again and again for your websites and save yourself a great deal of money.

You could even offer your skills for hire as an extra income once you become
proficient in this area.

It will also mean that you are much more adept at explaining what you want doing
if you were to hire a web designer in future.

The obvious downside is that it takes time to learn the skills in the first place.

So the other option is to have a freelance web designer make the site for you.

I have used www.RentaCoder.com for several websites and always been pleased with the
results.

You basically post a description of what you need doing on Rentacoder and in a
reverse eBay approach coders will bid for the project (I say reverse as you are
looking for lower rather than higher bidders).

Like on eBay coders are rated by people who have previously employed them to
do freelance work.

Several tips for using the site are:

* Don’t use coders with poor ratings or no ratings (Newbies)

* Start each bid with the words “this should be a straightforward job for a competent
coder…” as this will stop incompetent coders applying and also keep the price low.

* Lowest price is not always best - check into ratings and what other work the coder
has done.

* Only put the basics of your web design up in the initial project description and
give the full details in private message with interested coders (to stop prying
eyes copying your ideas…!)

With these tips in mind you should be well on your way to getting your website built.

They can often make pretty sites with lots of flashing animation and fancy graphics -
but does this really maximise your sales process…?

On the whole the answer is no - in test after test internet marketers find that
what tends to work best at selling online is a basic website with an extremely
compelling sales letter about the product on it.

That said, how do we educate the website developer to make us a site that sells?

Well a little research can go a long way.

Let’s say for example that you wanted to go into business selling ebooks and other products teaching people how to sell successfully on eBay.

You would type in your keywords on Google such as “eBay’s sales tips” or “how to sell
on eBay”.

Then methodically go through the top 20 or so sites that appear (particularly on the
paid ads side) and take notes in Microsoft Word or Notepad.

Look at the layout they use, the colors, the type of text and graphics etc. and note
down the good points to each site.

Remember to write down the web url (or webpage) that they appear on so that if you
decide to use a web designer you can simply say “I want a cool header graphic that looks
like that one on coolebaysite.com” (this is just an example I made up - not a real site!)

Now I am not suggesting for one minute that you copy other web sites as this is illegal
and unethical.

However you can use other sites for inspirations, ideas and themes (no one
can copyright an idea).

There are a number of components to getting a successful internet marketing site.

Three of the key areas that you must take care of on your website are:

1. A compelling headline (look at any good internet marketing site and they will have a great headline).

2. Compelling sales copy (As above - check out how other people write copy and begin
to learn this skill it is invaluable).

3. An opt-in box to capture visitors email address in return for a bonus (newsletter or
report), for repeat marketing.

I would also stress that a plain looking site (with maybe one or two good photos
or images) with a good sales letter will generally outsell a fancy looking site with
a poor sales letter or no sales letter at all.

Think of it like this - the website basically has to do the selling for you.

In the same way that you would have to if you were going around door-to-door
trying to sell your products.

But the sales pitch is all written in the letter.

OK now you have an idea what to look for when designing a website be sure to tune in for
the next email which addresses the question “how do I get it done?”

• Eat unprocessed foods. Ninety percent of what you eat should be a combination of (in this order of importance) raw vegetables, steamed vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and maybe a few fruits if necessary.

• Reduce starch to one portion a day, and don’t eat that portion during your evening meal. Best choices are beans, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal.

• Don’t overdo fruit: one a day maximum, and only the low-sugar, high-fiber variety. Apples, pears, plums and berries all are good choices. For now, fruit should be eaten alone or with something light, like low fat nuts. Lose the fruit juice completely.

• Reduce or eliminate dairy for the time being, especially cow’s milk. Exceptions: reasonable amounts of  low sugar, fat free yogurt.

• Lose the booze. Despite what the “studies” say, you lose no health benefits by giving up alcohol (including wine). There is nothing essential in alcohol that you can’t get in fruits and vegetables without all the bad side effects that go along with it.

• Stop using vegetable oils such as sunflower, safflower and corn. The supermarket kind is highly refined, and it oxidizes easily when heated, contributing to arterial plaque. Use olive oil instead, and apply it to food after the food is cooked when possible.

• Watch which types of fat you’re eating. The amount of fat you eat is probably less important than the kind of fat you eat. The worst are fried foods, margarine and foods that contain hydrogenized or partially hydrogenized oils. The best is omega-3, found in fish and flaxseed oil.

• Obsessively drink water: At least 8 ounces for every 20 pounds of bodyweight you’re now carrying around, each day. Every day. No excuses.

To put it simply…

Your metabolism is basically a bunch of organs and glands that are responsible for regulating how your body burns food for fuel and how it converts that food into energy. These include the thyroid, pancreas, stomach, small and large intestines, the colon, etc.

When you have a slow metabolism there’s a good chance that one of more of these systems is out of balance or just plain not working properly (and that’s almost always due to improper living, disease, drugs, or a severe accident).

As you digest food, your body releases chemicals - each food you eat forces your body to release certain chemicals which either make you store fat or make you burn fat.

If you have a slow metabolism - then even those foods that supposedly help you burn fat for energy, end up causing you to store excess fat on your body, meaning that even if you only eat a little food each day - that food is going to be stored as body fat until you fix the problem…
